one on this wednesday, the day ave. independence day and it's going to seem like a monday unless you're lucky enough to be off all week and then it's probably like a wednesday. kayleigh as you can see right there, griff jenkins apparently did not get the memo, not supposed to drink coffee during the cold open. >> i like the coffee drinking, i need to emulate that but steve at least monday felt like friday for those of you working. >> steve: we should point out kayleigh and i are literally 12 inches apart. griff however is about 260 miles south of us in manassas virginia at a place called the jukebox diner. griff, i have to won derricks how many kids these days know what a jukebox is? because that's something you have to put a coin in to play music and nobody has coins. >> yeah, listen, steve, we're going to learn 'em well as my parents used to say, what a jukebox is, and you can't download it or get it onto your ipad or anything else.

now, we are at the jukebox diner here in manassas and it is a great signature restaurant here in manassas, which is home to the battle of bull run, a lot of history here. but we are literally going to be talking to the diners here about how this economy is treating them. the owner here, joe, opened the doors early, steve and kayleigh, and he said, you know, we were paying just months ago $125 for a case of eggs, the highest he's ever paid in the 35 years he's owned restaurants, we're going to dive into that and see how people are feeling about things. >> steve: griff, is that a pie case behind you? is that full of pie? >> there is a pie case right behind me. there's a 1967 cobra hanging above me. i've got a motorcycle hot rod back on the wall. we have a lot of things to get into here, along with a little special guest we may have coming up very soon. >> steve: can we give a hint kind of? >> well, he may just happen to

be the governor of this great commonwealth of virginia and he is literally going to be here probably pouring some coffee, making some eggs and talking to us about, among other things, education. he knows better than anybody the front lines of the battles there. >> steve: i have a feeling griff's going to ask him if he's going to run for president. >> i believe so. good question. >> steve: ten minutes there at the jukebox in manassas. exactly 6:04 here in the east we start this hour of "fox& friends" with a federal judge yesterday calling out the biden administration for potentially the biggest attack on free speech in american history. >> the accusation comes as the white house is temporarily blocked from communicating with social media companies. >> george joins us live with the details. hey kevin. >> kevin: this was really something. u.s. district judge terry dottie ruling the communications between the white house and social media companies in the past likely amounted to

violations of the first amendment writing in an independence day injunction, quote, you're going to love this, the evidence produced thus far depiction an almost dystopian scenario during the covid-19 pandemic, a period perhaps best characterized by widespread doubt and uncertainty. the united states government seems to have assumed a role similar to an orwellian ministry of truth. wow. now he's referring to the communications brought to light by the twitter files released late last year which you probably recall exposed communications between fbi and other agencies to influence what americans could see on social media throughout pandemic. the louisiana and missouri attorneys general, who filed the lawsuit against the biden administration, celebrating the court's ruling. ag jeff landry writing, today we won an historic injunction

against the biden administration preventing it from censoring the core political speech of everyday americans on social media. and ag andrew bailey tweeting, happy birthday america, you get your first amendment back. meanwhile, the white house responds, said this. quote, the doj is reviewing the court's injunction and will evaluate its options in this case. our consistent view remains that social media platforms have a critical responsibility to take account of their effects -- that the effects of their platforms are having on the american people but make independent choices about the information they present. uh-huh. now, the ruling likely means interactions and coordination between big tech companies and the government will likely be significantly limited in the future, at least in the short term, with the possible exceptions for national security threats and/or criminal matters on social media.

very interesting times guys. back to you for now. >> steve: no kidding. all right, kevin, thank you very much. so what the administration also went on to say was essentially that the government can flag things and the government has been doing it. they did it during the biden administration. they did it during the trump administration. government can flag things but ultimately it is up to each company, they are independent and they decide what to flag. and, you know, kayleigh and griff, as we talk a little bit about this, the judge said this was an attack on the first amendment rights. in some cases the administration argued in depositions that, look, there were stories about lab leak out there, we had to crack down on that because we didn't think there was anything to that, but they also did things that were simply embarrassing for the biden family. apparently the judge wrote in his 155-page report, he said the white house director of digital strategy during the biden administration, rob flaherty, asked twitter to remove a parody

account meant to be finnegan biden, who is joe's granddaughter and the daughter of hunter biden. and within 45 minutes, kayleigh, of them asking them to take down the parody account which is protected speech, it was gone. >> this is stunning. you will not believe what you read on these 159 pages of this injunction. january 23, 2021, the allegation is that same individual, digital strategy in the white house, asked twitter to remove a tweet from, guess, robert f. kennedy, jr., based on twitter disinformation is what they say. also, the judge wrote this, the hunter biden laptop story was censored on these platforms, but basically what they did was twitter blocked users from sharing links to the new york post story and prevented users who previously sent tweets sharing the hunter biden story from sending new tweets until they deleted the previous tweet.

fact check true. i was white house press secretary at the time, i shared the article, i was blocked from twitter and my account was put back up only after i deleted the tweet. i actually didn't delete it. i had my daughter delete it and i said one day mommy will tell you what freedom of speech is and why the first amendment matters. what a victory today for freedom of speech. >> steve: griff? >> well, and it's good that you're teaching that to your daughter, kayleigh. yesterday i was working as just a reporter in the dc bureau and this news hit and we were like, oh, my gosh, what kind of judge drops something on the fourth of july, it's a holiday. then it dawned on us steve and kayleigh, this drives home the point that the very fundamental first amendment freedoms that our founders fought for and established this country for is exactly at the heart of this injunction, and if you just flashback to march, remember, journalist matt taibbi and michael shellenberger were testifying in those hearings back in march, here's a little

bit of what they had to say take a listen. >> the original problem of the internet was it might demock ra ties information globally. free internet would. it's very existence to threat of forms of anti government everywhere. what we found in the files was a sweeping effort to reverse that promise and use machine learning and other tools to turn the internet into an instrument of censorship and social control. unfortunately, our own government appears to be playing a lead role. government officials have been caught repeatedly pushing social media platforms to censor disfavored users and content. often these acts of censorship threaten the legal protection social media companies need to exist. they aren't asking for a national debate over the limits of the first amendment rather creating black lists of disfavored people and then pressuring ca joeling and demanding social media platforms censor deamplify and ban the people on those lists.

william county. we were all out celebrating the fourth of july yesterday fabulous day in virginia. remember at the end of the day we had the voice patrick henry the pen tomorrows jefferson and the sword george washington among the other founder so fourth of july is a big day in virginia. >> griff: i want to get your reaction to jill biden but you started as a young guy working in diners. >> i started taking out trash and washing dishes, i was promoted to breakfast cook so if they need help in the kitchen i'm up for it. >> griff: you hear that joe we have a chef in case you're short somebody. let's get your reaction to first lady jill biden saying that joe biden is america's education president. >> i hate to say that i think she may be the only person that believes that. i think the vast majority of americans believe that joe biden has so under supported and under-prepared our kids for what we're dealing with.

schools were closed for an extended period of time because joe biden thought schools should be closed unnecessarily and now we're seeing a learning loss across the nation that's unprecedented. we've lost decades and decades of progress and here in virginia, we, in fact, saw, because of bad policies from progressive liberals from years ago, before the pandemic, and then schools being shut for an unnecessary period of time, virginia's kids were top of the nation in learning loss. our fourth graders had the largest learning loss in math and in english. we are working hard to close that gap. it is a huge effort. we need more teachers. we need more specialized help. we have micro grants now for virginia's kids. we're working hard to reestablish excellence and expectations and give kids the kind of support they need. it hadn't come from joe biden. and i think, again, the vast majority of americans understand that joe biden has not been the education president, but counter, in fact, he's listened so much to the teachers unions and the teachers unions have dictated so much of what's going

on that they've forgotten who the kids belong to. the kids belong to parents. >> griff: yeah. >> and not to the state, not to politicians. they belong to parents. and this is one of the biggest challenges we've seen across the nation is who do the kids belong to? they belong to parents. >> griff: you gave voice to those parents, it catapulted you into office. now we see from the nea, we can show you some of these books, this is the nea held their summit putting out summer reading books to celebrate, you can see gender queer, white fragility, my low and marcos. parents don't want their kids reading this. why doesn't the white house get that. >> this is the same nea that counseled biden to keep schools shut for an extended period of time and it's the same nea that said that parents, in fact, were on the verge of being terrorists showing up at school board meetings. this is who is recommending what books to read for our kids. it's unprecedented. >> griff: books for educators, that sherbet read them.

>> that they should read as well. the challenge we've got today is there have been politicians and bureaucrats and the teachers associations and unions who believe that they are more important in kids' lives than parents. this is what we stood up for for virginia, this is what spread across the nation. the parents movement found ground zero right here in northern virginia and swept across the nation. this used to be a topic that republicans ran away from, we're running to it. because i think americans, and virginians, recognize it is time for parents to be not just at the table, but at the head of the table. >> griff: let me ask you governor. if, hypothetically speaking, you were president of the united states, what would you do to reign in the nea? what needs to be done? >> the first thing that needs to be done is a national parents bill of rights needs to be clearly established so that parents understand what their rights are. and just like we did in virginia, we passed legislation that allowed parents to decide whethered the materials being used in the classroom were appropriate for their family.

if not, they can demand a replacement book or part of the curriculum. it allows families to decide what's best, that's what's most important. at the end of the day, we start with parents, we move to children, we incorporated great teaching. this is what education is all about. it's not about the teachers unions dick at a timeding what teachers and kids should be reading in the summertime. >> griff: steve and kayleigh the governor didn't correct me when i hypothetically gave him the white house. is a run still open? a lot of people thinking maybe you could -- >> well, it's very humbling to even have this discussion. as i said, i started out flipping eggs and flipping pancakes and scrambling eggs in a diner. i am so focused on virginia this year. yesterday, i was with a great senate candidate in juan pablo, we marched in a parade in leesburg, we have to take our senate and hold our house. this is the year in our midterms where we demonstrate that yes, parents matter and yes we can

lower taxes and streamline regulations and see our economy move and grow jobs faster than ever in virginia. we can back the blue and have government work more efficiently. this is a chance for a state that was blue just two years ago to finish the cycle electing a republican lieutenant governor attorney general holding our house and flipping our senate >> kayleigh: governor youngkin so if you take the senate in november there will be a clamoring for you to enter the race. sounds like you're not closing the door governor. >> well, as i've said, the most important thing i'm going to do this year is first be a great governor as best i possibly can be and i think we're doing a really good job in virginia. but on top of that, we are going to hold our house, flip our senate and continue the great work that we've been doing. >> steve: you know, governor, that sounds a lot like what ron desantis said before he started to run. we're going to get through the legislative session down in florida and then i'll worry about running for president and of course yesterday he was in new hampshire because he's running for president. i'm sure you saw a couple of weeks ago in axios, they had a

story that said that some powerful republican donors who do not support donald trump are beginning to be concerned about ron desantis because he's not gotten the tracks they thought he would and are encouraging you to jump into the race. so we're not asking you if you're going to run for president. but are donors saying, hey, governor, why don't you get into it? >> well, i so appreciate the fact that people are watching what's happening in virginia. it's huge encouragement. listen, just three years ago, virginia was deep blue and it was 47th in the nation in job recovery coming out of the pandemic. and all of a sudden, with lowering taxes and streamlining regulations and standing up for parents and reestablishing excellence in education, backing the blue, we all of a sudden see virginia catapult into a top-10 job creeks, in job creeks. we see parents all of a sudden exercising their rights in

schools. we are doing all of the things that we need to do in order to reestablish virginia as the best place to live, work, and raise a family. and i love the fact that folks all over the country appreciate it and are encouraging us. >> steve: so are donors asking you to run for president? >> well, just by this conversation, which is one that, again, i'm humbled by and appreciate giant that's a yes. >> it's happening frequently. i keep reminding everybody, i am focused on virginia this year. >> griff: we'll see if the diners encourage it even further steve. governor thank you so much for being here. >> i can't tell you how much i appreciate you guys being in virginia on the 5th of july, the day after we celebrate the greatest nation that has ever been, and we recognize that all men are created equal and we are endowed with certain unalienable rights life liberty and the pursuit of happiness. >> griff: the pursuit of eggs we'll see how he does cooking

>> kayleigh: back with a fox news weather alert, california and the desert southwest are bracing for triple digit temperatures. wow. phoenix is expected to see highs over 112 degrees for at least

the next week as heat advisories are issued for portions of northern california and western oregon. and severe storms are expected to slam the middle of the country. let's check in with meteorologist adam klotz for a fox weather forecast. adam >> adam: good morning kayleigh certainly steamy on fox square after days of big afternoon thunderstorms, actually a lot more sunshine the next couple days in the northeast but those aren't where the big weather stories are, let's dive into it. you showed some of them. there are going to be big storms across the middle of the country, still seeing some storms currently moving across portions of kansas and nebraska but right along a frontal boundary including places like denver stretching down across the midwest wichita st. louis and up towards chicago where you see a possibility of thunderstorms today winds up to 60 miles an hour, possibly hail, certainly heavy rain across this region. and then those very warm temperatures continue to linger in the desert southwest, 111 in phoenix today, 107 in las vegas. all of that heat is going to

house, they found it saturday evening during a search prompting an evacuation and response from the dc fire department. preliminary testing reveals it tested positive for cocaine but officials say further testing is still underway. authorities are now looking into how the substance made its way to the white house >> and a school of 50 sand sharks spotted off the coast of long island, new york. officials closing robert moses beach for an hour and a half before the waters were deemed safe to open. the sightings come one day after a teen girl was bitten by a shark at the same beach which isn't too far away from where a 15-year-old boy was hurt in the first confirmed shark attack of the season. look at this video from florida showing a shark swimming dangerously close to beach goers forcing some in the water to rush to shore. and that is why i do not go into the water. kayleigh. >> kayleigh: i don't blame you. and that's from a floridian. what san diego's solution to a

raging homeless crisis? safe sleeping sites. the first of two such areas had the grand opening this week featuring restrooms meals mobile showers and while residents can't bring in drugs, weapons or alcohol, it does not require its visitors to be sober. our next guest was a former heroin addict who lived on the streets in san francisco for six months before he got clean. san francisco activist tom wolf, he joins us now. tom, welcome. >> good morning. >> kayleigh: tom, i also understand you were arrested six times, you turned your life around. would something like what's being proposed in california help you back in the time in which you were homeless? >> gosh, would it have helped me? i don't think so. i think it would have probably just prolonged my agony out on the street. but we're at such a crisis point where we have thousands of people camping on public sidewalks throughout california,

to have an encampment like this, a safe sleeping site is probably a step in the right direction. there are definitely pros and cons to this. this is a very, very expensive temporary solution to the crisis we have on the street but i do like the fact that san diego's tapping a step to ban public camping on public streets. >> kayleigh: tom, what did cause you to turn your life around? >> i was held accountable. you know, i was doing a lot of things on the street, a lot of bad things, breaking the law to support my drug addiction which was heroin and later fentanyl. so, you know, if it wasn't for that accountability i don't think i would be here talking to you today. so being put in jail being given an opportunity to sober up and then take advantage of drug treatment after that really saved my life. >> kayleigh: well, tom, we are certainly glad that you are here and you mentioned fentanyl which just rav i should this country, so many young people, but there's a new drug really alarms me called the zombie drug called tranc.
